Felixstowe Ferry hosted this years final on Saturday. On a great day for golf both sides were ready and I am sure appreciative of the fair weather and light(ish) wind.

Woodbridge won the toss and had the honour. The foursomes started very warily however 2 good wins for Woodbridge and 1 for Captain Sam Renville and partner Russell Oakey meant the 3 pairing result was vital. Perhaps Bury St Edmunds had the momentum when despite being 2 down with 2 to play they won 17 and 18 for half a point, Dan Smailes holing a nerve tingling 5 foot putt to win the hole.

The singles got underway with the largest watching crowd seen at a Suffolk Golf Union event with perhaps 100 people on the 1st Tee. They moved off with their favourites After 12 holes it felt very close however as the results came through Woodbridge were clearly having the better of the closing holes. Wins for Patrick Coffey and Declan Condon got them off to a good start with Burys captain Sam Renville get a point back. However when Tom Fowler and George Fricker both won the next 2 games the 6.5pts threshold had been reached and the celebrations started with the final score being declared as Woodbridge 7.5 Bury St Edmunds 4.5. As the presentations were being prepared a local member was heard to remark regarding the spectators that it was like being at Wentworth with clapping and cheering all round the course.

President John Maddock presented medals to both sides and presented the Shield to winning captain Simon Peckford.
